Hlynur (pronounced with a silent H) is a viking.
Thats the easiest way to describe this titan of a player and captain of the Icelandic National Team.
He plays extremely big but is barely 200cm tall.
Born and raised in Grundarfjörður on Iceland, Hlynur started playing organized basketball in Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur or KR Reykjavik for us internationals.
Hlynurs first professional season abroad (2009-2010) he played in Holland with Aris Leeuwarden and did really well.
Following season Swedish champions, Sundsvall Dragons signed Hlynur and he has been with the team ever since. He signed a five year extension this summer making it ten years in a row in the same club which shows the appreciation his teammates and coaches have for him.
Earning All Star honors and constantly being the top rebounder his statline is a secure bet for a double double every night.
He has been the captain of almost every team he has played for since he was a kid including the Icelandic National Team and it’s easy to see why. His work ethic is a major impact on any level and he get more likes than kittens on Facebook. Just take a look at this video from the opening game against Germany in Eurobasket. And yeah, that’s Dirk Nowitzki getting noseburns…
